V rámci experimentací s videozáznamem medituji nad tématem šperku a času, šperku v čase, vyjádření změny, pomíjivosti objektu a jeho významu. Pracuji s kontrastními materiály: se solí a cukrem.

Papírový prsten se ve zrychleném videozáznamu pokryje třpytivými solnými krystaly. Vznikne velmi křehký a dotekem zničitelný šperk, stojící na prahu vlastního pominutí. Sůl jako materiál vytváří přímou paralelu s věčným diamantem, s nímž je v hodnotovém i trvanlivostním kontrastu.

Využívám cukrářské techniky taženého cukru a vytvářím videozáznam procesu výroby šperku, jenž připomíná tekoucí zlato. Statickou hodnotu výsledných šperků záměrně znevažuji jejich konzumací – šperk interreaguje s tělem neočekávaným způsobem. Materiál připomínající zlato je zničen, rychle pomine, podobně jako solné krystaly prstenu.

In this experimental videomaking work I meditate the concept of jewellery and time, jewellery IN time, the process of change, impermanence of objects, and the meaning of time in the jewel’s context.  My materials of choice this time are salt and sugar. They contrast in function but are similar in value.

salt ring

A ring made of paper is submerged in a salt solution. Over a speedy timelapse dazzling crystals form on its surface, creating a frail jewel, delicate to the touch, standing just on the threshold of its own passing. Salt, in this case, is a material directly in contrast with the everlasting valuable jewel, the diamond.

sugar glam bracelet

Using the confectioner’s technique of pulling sugar, I make a recording of the jewel-making process. The material is appearance-wise reminiscent of liquid gold, shining under the lights. I then proceed to mock the value of the jewel by an unexpected bodily interaction – by consuming the sugary bracelet. The gold-like material is fragile and is, ultimately, destroyed just as the salt ring was.
